Charitable Givings
Giving is not just about making a donation, it's about making a difference...
At Bishops Cannings school, we have always gone out of our way to help and support others. Our golden rule of ‘Treat others the way you would want to be treated,’ and our core Bible verse ‘Love is what binds everything together in perfect unity,’ underpin our daily actions in and out of school.
Lakono - Our Sponsored Child.
Lakono lives in Burkino Faso and we support Lakono through raising money, sending letters and cards and praying for him and his family.
We support Lakono by sponsoring him through a Charity called Compassion which works with local churches to release children from poverty across the world.
Generosity is a Key Christian Value
Over the last few years we have supported many wonderful different charities and causes which include:
Red Nose Day, NSPCC, Julia's House, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Children in Need, Devizes Food Bank, Race for Life, Cancer Research, Christian Aid, Bristol Children’s Hospital, Toilet Twinning, Bin Twinning and our sponsored child in Burkina Faso, Lakono.
Charitable Giving Program
Over the course of the academic year, Bishops Cannings school will have the opportunity to organise and run an event to help raise money for their linked charity.
The school houses of Bishops Cannings School are named after the famous and iconic landmarks that are carved into the hills that surround us. Like every pupil in our school, each white horse is different and has its own special story to tell.
Through discussions with last year's School Council and Worship Leaders, we have chosen 4 different local charities that we will be supporting as a main focus and one of these will be linked to each school house.
They have been chosen specifically, as we believe they have a wide impact, support our Christian Vision and Values, help our local community and have already helped us and our school family in hours of need.
Our support could help save a life. Wiltshire Air Ambulance is operational for up to 19 hours a day, 365 days a year, thanks to your donations and it costs over £10,000 day to operate!
They are called to on average, three potentially lifesaving missions a day in their helicopter and rapid response vehicles. They are called out to all kinds of emergencies, from road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests, child-related emergencies to horse-riding and cycling injuries.
Julia’s House is not a typical children’s hospice. They provide practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at their hospices.
Julia’s House are an award-winning children’s hospice charity dedicated to bringing comfort and care to families across the two counties of Wiltshire and Dorset.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust was founded in 1962, driven by a concern to protect local wildlife and natural habitats. Their first nature reserve was Blackmoor Copse, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and one of the most important woods in Wiltshire for butterflies. Today, they manage over 40 nature reserves across the county, including wetland, woodland, meadow and chalk downland habitats. They are passionate about getting people outdoors to experience nature and to take action to ensure its protection.
The Devizes Foodbank believe that no one in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
“The foodbank was there when we really needed it, it was an absolute lifeline.”
