Bishops Cannings School's Curriculum Intent

The intent of our curriculum is for children to leave Bishops Cannings School having:

  • Flourished and enjoyed their time at school,
  • An understanding of how to make a positive contribution to the world.
  • Confidence and respect for themselves and others,
  • Experienced success across a range of subjects,
  • Developed independence in their learning,

Bishops Cannings Curriculum Implementation: 

The curriculum at Bishops Cannings is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the needs of all children. Running through our curriculum are our school's Golden Threads; key themes which we believe are vital for building links, not just across topics, but across year groups and key stages. "Community and Culture, Nature and Nurture, Voyage and Discovery and Empires and Dynasties" are our golden threads that we believe weave a coherent and well-connected curriculum which enables our pupils to deepen their knowledge and understanding. Our aim is to provide opportunities for children to develop as independent, confident and successful learners, with high aspirations, who know how to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society. We pride ourselves on our enriched and wide ranging experiential activities which are carefully planned to support our topics and learning. We strongly believe that our curriculum should develop a sense of self within the wider world. Our Christian values of perseverance, wisdom, aspiration, thankfulness, generosity and graciousness are woven through our curriculum and underpin everything we believe at Bishops Cannings School. We believe that at the heart of every child’s learning journey should be enjoyment and a deep desire to better themselves for own personal reward and in doing so discovering the unique potential given to them by God.

Our Curriculum Leadership

At Bishops Cannings Primary School we organise our curriculum leadership into six teams: Religion and Worldviews, Language and Literacy (including MFL), STEM (Science, Design Technology, Engineering, Computing and Maths), Arts and Music, Humanities (History and Geography) and Health and Wellbeing (including PE and PSHRE).  

 

 

 

 

 

 The role of the Curriculum Teams is to:

Ensure that the creative curriculum policy is implemented consistently throughout the school. · Collate and review assessment data to ensure progress throughout the school. · Ensure coverage of key skills and breadth of study across both key stages. This will be achieved through a range of means including work scrutiny, lesson observations and pupil voice.
